How It Works
This tool performs literal text find-and-replace on DOCX files at the XML level,
giving you deeper control than Word's built-in find/replace feature.
What makes this special?
- Deep replacement: Searches through all XML files inside the DOCX, including document metadata, headers, footers, and properties
- Offline processing: Everything runs in your browser - no server uploads, complete privacy
- Simple & fast: Literal string matching (no complex regex) for reliable, predictable results
Use Cases
- Change author names or company names in document metadata
- Update template placeholders across headers, footers, and body text
- Batch rename terms that appear in multiple locations
- Clean up or modify hidden XML properties
Limitations
- Use at your own risk. I take no responsibility. If you lose your data, it's on you. If you do shady things, it's on you. Don't do shady things.
- Only works with .docx files (not .doc)
- Technically will also work with .xlsx, .pptx, etc., but not tested
- Performs literal string matching - no wildcards or regular expressions
- If your search term spans across multiple Word formatting runs (e.g., partially bold), it may not be found
